Free money for school!

At Lambton Financial we believe in investing in the future and our future rests with the students of today.  The Credit Union is providing local area academics with scholarships as a sign of support for the achievement of their educational goals. Listed below are the terms and conditions relating to the scholarship program as well as a link to an online scholarship application form.
  • A total of seven Credit Union scholarships will be provided  in 2010.
  • Six scholarships will be granted for $500 for each successful student. If the student or the student’s parents or guardian have been members in good standing of Lambton Financial Credit Union for over two years at the date of application, the scholarship will double to $1,000.
  • Petrolia High School (LCCVI)-Gary Matthews Scholarship Award* will be granted to one student from Petrolia High School, funds for which total $1,000.
  • Specific High School scholarships are for students that have been accepted at an accredited university or college for their first year on full time basis.
  • Students cannot receive more than one scholarship from Lambton Financial Credit Union throughout their educational career.
  • Scholarship submissions will be required no later than 5:00 pm May 31st of each year that these scholarships are offered.
  • A decision on the successful applicants will be made by a committee appointed by Lambton Financial Credit Union in conjunction with a representative from each school listed above.
  • All Members Lambton Financial Credit Union, or non members of Lambton Financial Credit Union who reside in Lambton County are eligible for this scholarship program.
  • A decision will be made no later than June 30th each calendar year.
  • Applicants who receive a scholarship will also be required to submit, or have a digital image of them captured by authorized Lambton Financial staff for use on Lambton Financial’s website and newsletters along with their name.
  • The following criteria will be taken into consideration when evaluating the applicants;

    • the application information
    • A brief essay (maximum 1000 words) on the topic of “ How to avoid financial pitfalls while completing a post-secondary education ”
    • high school transcripts
    • details of extracurricular activity including sports and charitable work
    • if two applicants are considered equal and one is a member of Lambton Financial Credit Union, the Credit Union member will be given preference
    • personal information (other than the information mentioned above) of all applicants will be kept strictly confidential.
